We are seeking a motivated and experienced Intermediate Water Resources Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our engineering and environmental consulting team. This position supports a diverse portfolio of mining, hydroelectric, infrastructure, municipal, and environmental projects throughout British Columbia and beyond. Based in Vancouver, the successful candidate will apply their technical expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering to deliver practical and innovative solutions for complex water management challenges.
Working collaboratively with senior engineers, scientists, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading technical components of projects, performing engineering analyses, preparing technical deliverables, and supporting client and regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys applying technical knowledge to real-world challenges, managing project tasks, and continuing to develop as a technical leader within a consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and complete hydrologic, hydraulic, and water resources engineering analyses for mining, hydroelectric, municipal, infrastructure, and environmental projects.
- Prepare and review hydrologic assessments, flood studies, low-flow assessments, watershed analyses, climate assessments, and water balance models.
- Perform hydraulic analyses and design assessments for rivers, streams, culverts, bridges, spillways, channels, drainage systems, and water management infrastructure.
- Develop engineering calculations, models, technical specifications, drawings, and design documentation.
- Apply professional engineering judgment to evaluate technical challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Manage technical tasks within larger multidisciplinary projects, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.
- Prepare, review, and contribute to technical reports, engineering memoranda, proposals, regulatory submissions, and client deliverables.
- Support and oversee field investigations, including hydrometric monitoring, site assessments, construction observations, and environmental monitoring programs.
- Review and interpret hydrologic, meteorological, topographic, and environmental datasets to support engineering decisions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to graduate engineers, engineers-in-training, and field staff.
- Participate in client meetings, regulatory discussions, project planning sessions, and technical presentations.
- Support construction-phase services including contractor communication, field reviews, technical support, and response to site conditions.
- Assist with business development activities including proposal preparation, client relationship development, and identification of project opportunities.
- Maintain project documentation and deliverables in accordance with company quality management procedures.
- Adhere to company safety policies, professional practice requirements, client requirements, and applicable provincial and federal regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for registration in British Columbia.
- 3–8 years of relevant engineering experience in water resources, hydrotechnical, environmental, or civil infrastructure consulting.
- Experience delivering water resources engineering projects for mining, hydroelectric, municipal, infrastructure, or environmental clients.
- Strong technical understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, watershed processes, flood frequency analysis, and water management principles.
- Demonstrated experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling tools and engineering analysis software.
- Experience preparing technical reports, engineering designs, and regulatory documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality technical work within project schedules and budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to clients, regulators, and project teams.
- Experience mentoring junior technical staff is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Experience with software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GoldSim, GIS platforms, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Aquarius, Python, R, or other engineering analysis tools is considered an asset.
Required Certifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or ability to obtain registration in British Columbia.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Standard First Aid with CPR is considered an asset.
- WHMIS.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Bear Awareness, Wilderness First Aid, Fall Protection, Swiftwater Rescue, or other field safety certifications are considered assets.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be capable of:
- Participating in field investigations under varying weather conditions.
- Walking over uneven terrain and around active construction, industrial, and remote project sites.
- Hiking moderate distances while carrying field equipment when required.
- Working safely around rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and water management infrastructure.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
- Working extended hours or overtime periodically to meet project deadlines or field program requirements
